# AutoSend Email Automation > Build automated email sequences triggered by contact properties and time delays. Contacts enter automatically when they match the trigger condition and exit when they no longer match. Last updated: April 2026 --- ## Overview Email Automations are triggered sequences that run continuously, sending emails to individual contacts based on their behavior or properties. This is different from Marketing Emails, which are one-time sends to a list (newsletters, announcements, campaigns). Automations are configured entirely through the AutoSend dashboard. API access for automations is not currently available. MCP support for agent-driven automation workflows is not yet available but is planned. --- ## Trigger Types Automations start when a contact matches one of three trigger conditions: - **Contact joins a list**: fires when a contact is added to a specific list - **Contact property equals**: fires when a contact property matches a specific value - **Contact property changes from one value to another**: fires when a contact property transitions between two specific values --- ## Configuration - **Delays**: set wait time between each email (minutes, hours, days) - **Sequence length**: no limit on the number of emails in a sequence - **Exit behavior**: contacts exit automatically when they no longer match the trigger condition, after receiving all emails in the sequence, or when they unsubscribe - **Per-email settings**: subject, content, sender, and send time are configurable for each email in the sequence Most automations take 5 to 15 minutes to set up. --- ## Analytics Each email in a sequence has its own analytics: opens, clicks, unsubscribes, and complaint rates. Reporting is per-email, not just per-automation. --- ## Scope and Limitations - No conditional branching or if/else logic within sequences - No A/B testing within automation flows - Triggers are limited to list membership and contact properties (no webhook or API event triggers) - Dashboard-only configuration (no API or MCP access yet) --- ## FAQs **What happens if a contact's trigger condition changes mid-sequence?** They exit the automation automatically. They will not receive any remaining emails in the sequence. Contacts also exit after receiving all emails in the sequence or when they unsubscribe. **Can a contact re-enter an automation after exiting?** No. A contact can only be part of an automation once. If they exit (by completing the sequence, unsubscribing, or no longer matching the trigger), they will not re-enter even if they match the trigger condition again. --- ## Resources - [Website](https://autosend.com) - [Pricing](https://autosend.com/pricing) - [Documentation](https://docs.autosend.com) - [API Reference](https://docs.autosend.com/api-reference) - [Changelog](https://docs.autosend.com/changelog) - [Support](mailto:support@autosend.com)
